Cultural Diversity in Education in Partnership with Edge Hill University 

Starting from 14th May 2007 - Venue: Edge Hill University, Woodland Centre, Chorley.

Two sessions on the same day, afternnon session, 1pm - 4pm and evening session, 5pm - 8 pm

Islam

This module has been designed to devlop enhanced knowledge and understanding of Islam and the backgrounds of pupils from the Muslim community, thus helping and supporting them achieve their maximum potential.

There will be also be opprtunities for discussion and informed debate around current controversial issues such as the wearing of the veil and the impact of legislation to counteract terrorism.

The module will consist of of a series of weekly twilight seminrs and tutorials as well as on-line support and the opprtunity to visit a local mosque.

To gain a CERTIFICATE IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, particpants will be expected to submit an assignment which demonstrate full engagement with the aims and objectives of the module. The course will last for 7 weeks with 3 hours two-weekly sessions, 1pm - 4 pm and 5pm - 8pm and visit to a mosque.

 

1 - day Islamic Cultrual Awareness Training

The Islamic cultural and teacher training courses have been delivered to many organisations including Edge hill University College, Surestart, Lancashire Adult Learning, Lancashire College, Preston Muslim Forum, Contour Housing, Prospect Trust and Clitheroe Grammar School.

In recent years a number of new legislations have come into force relating to multicultural, multi-faith workplace. The Race Relations Amendment Act and the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003 and the Equality Act 2006, which places statutory obligations upon employers in both the private and public sector.

Any organisation that has customer relation, public dealings and employ staff. Examples includes: NHS, LEA, schools, social services, housing, FE colleges, universities, police, fire brigade, ambulance services, communications industry etc
